“Power of Now” is one of my favorite books. Power of being in present is extremely effective. Everyone should read this book for their better self-being. The book is about being in the present moment for a happy life. It is written by Eckhart Tolle who is a spiritual teacher. I have always believed in the fact that we cannot predict the future. But we often worry about the future. It is a human tendency. However, we can make some efforts not to worry about uncontrollable things. I have read this book way back and want to share some of the best things from the book.

  • Emotions arises at the place where mind and body meet – It is said so beautifully. One is physical and one is mental and when both meets it arises an abstract feeling.
  • It is true that I do a lot of aimless thinking, like most people, but I can still choose to use my mind to get and accomplish things, and I do that all the time – It is said so rightly. I follow this practice multiple times not every time. But I try not to think a lot on the things that are not under my control that helps me to be in present. Because as I think being in present in itself is a meditation.
  • If you find yourself unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally – We all know about somethings, but it is important to implement them as well. Accepting things is a huge achievement. If you are able to accept your flaws, failures, rejections, etc. then you become unstoppable from being the best version of you.
  • Are you a habitual “waiter”? – There are two types of waiting:
  • Small scale waiting – Waiting in traffic jam, in an airport queue, to finish work, etc.
  • Large scale waiting – Waiting for vacation, changing job, for marriage, for relationship, etc.
  • Waiting is a state of mind – Basically, it means that you want the future, you don’t want the present.  You don’t want what you’ve got, and you want what you haven’t got. This reduces quality of life and you lose the present. So, try giving up on waiting as a state of mind and when you catch it immediately snap out of it. Be in present and enjoy it.
  • So, next time somebody says “Sorry to have kept you waiting”, you can reply, “That’s all right, I wasn’t waiting. I was just standing here enjoying my company” – According to me, this is the best line from this book.

Nowadays, self-care and spiritual culture has increased rapidly because the ratio of anxiety, depression, self-doubt, comparison, fear, etc. has increased. That is why, we get to hear a lot like to be in present, embrace it, enjoy it. That is why, I like to go with the flow along with planning something’s sometimes.

Thank you.
