I have finished watching this series “When life gives you tangerines”, and I’m blown away! The hype is real, and for good reason. It’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. What a wonderful real-life story.

This series is a masterpiece! The simplicity and honesty in its storytelling are truly captivating. The lead actors, Ae-sun and Gwan-sik, deliver outstanding performances, supported by a talented cast. I highly recommend this series, despite its length. It has shown that some people struggle in life a lot for food, money, work, home, love, etc. The male actor in the series is a green forest who always loved his partner from the very start of their teenage till their old age and death.

They have been with each other through life’s ups and downs, personal and professional. They never gave up on each other. They have always stood for each other. One of the most significant takeaways is the selfless love of parents for their children. They sacrifice everything to give their kids the best life possible, never giving up on them despite frustrations and challenges. The love of parents is unconditional without any filter. In the series, children get annoyed or irritated with their parents but parents didn’t ever leave them. They always have their kids back. They have always fulfilled their kids wishes. They have made sure they get a good life. Every small detail between the couple was so pure, honest and simple, you can’t leave them adoring. Despite facing numerous obstacles, their love remains strong.

The father figure is often the silent yet strongest pillar of the family.  The loss of their son was devastating, leaving an unforgettable mark on their lives. The mother’s daily ritual of setting aside his favorite food items is a tearful reminder of their enduring grief. A supportive partner can nurture growth and dreams, as seen in the encouragement of Ae-sun’s writing and poetry. Parents’ unconditional love is persistent, a quality we can learn from. Ae-sun’s determination made her a strong figure as a political leader. When you cannot be with someone you love, God is bringing all pieces together. Despite Gwan-sik’s passing, their life together was filled with love, and their bond remains unforgettable.

Here are some heartwarming instances that stood out to me:

Ae-sun once asked Gwan-sik, “When will I be grown up?” His thoughtful response: “Time doesn’t make you grow; it’s your situations and circumstances that shape you.”

Compulsion can drive people to do unexpected things. Ae-sun hates to sell cabbages or fish, yet doing so for her children’s education and business, showcases the selfless sacrifices parents make for their kids’ well-being.

When Ae-sun’s ex-boyfriend asked, “Don’t you love me anymore?” she replied, “I do love you, but I love myself too.”

That’s all for this special blog, featuring a beautiful story that resonated deeply. I’d love to hear your thoughts – did any part of the story strike a chord with you?
